Handmade pottery is not perfectly uniform, with pinholes, crazing, or distortions. Each piece is slightly different in color, size, and shape, and no two pieces are exactly alike. This is the charm of handmade pottery. These are also the unique characteristics of handmade pottery, so enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter. [Individual Differences] Since each piece is handmade, there may be individual differences in shape, size, thickness, etc. [Painting] Since each piece is hand-painted, there may be individual differences in the pattern, design, and color shading.

Baizan Kiln

Baizan Kiln is one of Tobe's oldest kilns. Since its founding in 1882, the kiln has cherished the traditions of everyday forms, natural patterns, and simple, beautiful handwork. Based on the concept of "use and beauty," the kiln produces tableware that is in tune with the user's feelings.

Tobe Ware

Pottery from Tobe Town, Ehime Prefecture, one of Japan's leading porcelain producing regions, has been produced since the Edo period. Designated a "Traditional Craft," approximately 100 kilns continue to create works that preserve the tradition of handcrafting and hand-painting, while each exploring their own unique and distinctive expressions. The defining feature of Tobe ware is its white porcelain with a gosu (indigo blue) underlay. Because it is a durable and versatile porcelain, it has long been loved as everyday utensils.
