Collection: Yunomi / Japanese Cup

What are Japanese Cups (Yunomi)?

Yunomi, or Japanese cups, are traditional tea cups deeply rooted in Japanese tea culture. These cups not only reflect the elegance and craftsmanship of Japanese tableware, but also play a significant role in both everyday tea-drinking and formal tea ceremonies. Yunomi cups are widely used for enjoying a variety of teas, including Sencha tea and Matcha tea, and are available in different shapes, materials, and designs that reflect Japan’s aesthetic sensibilities.

Types of Japanese Cups

Sencha Yunomi: These cups are small with a wide mouth, making them ideal for enjoying green tea. Sencha Yunomi are the most commonly used in Japan, and the majority of our products fall into this category. They offer a simple, elegant design perfect for daily use.

Matchawan: Matchawan are larger bowls used for preparing matcha during tea ceremonies. While not typically used for everyday tea drinking, they play an important role in the formal ritual of tea-making.

Differences by Shape

  • Cylinder Shape: Characterized by a straight and simple design, these cups have high heat retention, making them perfect for enjoying hot tea.
  • Wide-Mouthed: These cups have a wide opening, making them easy to cool, and are suitable for matcha and cold teas.
  • Round Shape: With a rounded form, these cups are easy to hold and offer a relaxed way to enjoy tea.
