A warm appearance

This teacup is crafted from powdered porcelain with a soft texture. The flower-shaped, fluttering edges create a truly adorable look. The dotted iron powder and the subtle red color called "onte" are also charming features. When you hold it in both hands, the moderate weight and thickness feel comfortable in your hands.

Take a relaxing break during tea time

This cup is plump and rounded, with a slightly larger size. It's perfect for a leisurely after-meal tea or while reading. It's also great for serving small side dishes, like marinated octopus and tomatoes. It's a great way to entertain guests, so it's a good idea to have several on hand.

Maintenance recommendations from the pottery maker ・When you first use it, wash it lightly with detergent and use it as is. Because it is water-absorbent, it may turn gray or develop spots when immersed in water, but please rest assured that it will return to its original state once it has dried completely.
・When serving oily or dark liquids, briefly soak the container in water or hot water to moisten it before use. This will help prevent stains.
Product Characteristics/
Handling Precautions
・Boiling in rice water or similar will help prevent stains, but please note that the color may change until the container is completely dry.
・After use, dry thoroughly before storing. This may cause mold and stains.
・Although the bottom has been treated, please use a mat or similar item as a precaution.
・As these are handmade, each container will vary slightly in color, shape, size, thickness, etc.
・Pinholes and variations in pattern and color may be present.
・Over time, the color and texture may change, and crazing (cracks in the surface glaze) may occur.
・Prices may be revised or adjusted by the artist or potter.

Things to Know Before Purchasing

The unique character of each piece of pottery is created by blemishes, fading, uneven glaze, shading, and shape variations not found in mass-produced items. Handmade pottery is not perfectly shaped, and each piece has slight variations in color, size, and shape, with pinholes, crazing, and distortions. The charm of handmade pottery lies in the fact that no two pieces are exactly alike. These are also the unique characteristics of handmade pottery, so enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter. [Individual Differences] Because each piece is handmade, there will be individual differences in shape, size, thickness, etc. [Color Variations/Firing Variations] Since the glaze is applied by hand, it may not be evenly distributed. During firing, temperatures vary depending on the firing area of the kiln, resulting in uneven firing. [Other Notes]

〇Some items may have dents or uneven glaze, as shown in the photo.
〇Products that have passed inspection by the pottery manufacturer or artist are inspected again before being delivered to customers.

Furutani Seitosho - Koichi Furutani

Born in 1979 in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture
Started making pottery at Furutani Seitosho in 2004
Specially crafted "Kohiki White Dishware" We work every day to create "Kohiki White Dishware" that enhances any dish and exudes elegance and warmth. We also pay particular attention to the clay we use, using our own clay for pottery wheel and tatara molding. The red clay is molded into the clay, which is then coated with white decorative mud, glazed, and fired. To ensure comfortable use and microwave-safety, no chemicals or liquid ceramic coatings are used after firing. Instead, we fire our tableware twice, a process known as "honyaki," to make it even more durable and of a quality that can be used safely and with confidence in everyday life.
Our Thoughts on Tableware "The most important time in daily life" It's the time when families gather together to eat meals and relax over tea or coffee. We strive to create tableware that gently complements people's lives and enriches those moments. "Konohiki no Shiro" is a gentle, expressive white. It is a simple white that enhances any dish and can be used every day. Furthermore, the gentle, rustic pottery flavor that peeks out from beneath the surface of the tableware adds a great deal of depth to the piece. We would be extremely happy if you could enjoy the warmth inherent in our Japanese tableware in your daily life.
