Things to know before purchasing

The unique character of each piece of pottery is created by features not found in mass-produced items, such as spots, fading, uneven glaze, shading, and shape variations. Handmade pottery is not perfectly uniform, and each piece has slight variations in color, size, and shape, with pinholes, crazing, and distortion. The charm of handmade pottery lies in the fact that no two pieces are exactly alike. These are also the unique characteristics of handmade pottery, so enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter. [Individual Differences] Since each piece is handmade, there may be individual differences in shape, size, thickness, etc. [Color Variations/Baking Variations] Since the glaze is applied by hand, the application may not be uniform. During firing, temperatures vary depending on the area of the kiln, resulting in uneven firing.
[Other Notes] 〇 Products that have passed inspection by the kiln owner or artist are inspected again before being delivered to customers.

Furutani Seitosho - Koichi Furutani

Born in 1979 in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture
Started pottery making at Furutani Seitosho in 2004
Specialty "Kohiki White Dishware" We work every day to create elegant, warm "Kohiki White Dishware" that enhances any dish. We also pay particular attention to the clay we use, using our own clay for pottery throwing and tatara molding. The clay is molded from red clay, then coated with white decorative mud, glazed, and fired. To ensure comfortable use and microwave-safety, no chemicals or liquid ceramic coatings are applied after firing. Instead, we repeat a double firing process called "honyaki" to make our tableware even more durable and of a quality that can be used safely in everyday life.
Our Thoughts on Tableware "The most important time in daily life" It's the time when the family gathers together to eat meals and relax over tea or coffee. We strive to create tableware that gently complements people's lives and enriches such moments. "Konohiki no Shiro" is a gentle, expressive white. It is a simple white that enhances any dish and can be used every day. Furthermore, the gentle, rustic pottery flavor that peeks out from beneath the surface of the tableware adds a great deal of depth to the piece. We would be extremely happy if you could enjoy the warmth of our Japanese tableware in your daily life.
