Traditional arts in modern life

A small bowl with a gorgeous chrysanthemum motif. The slight shading of color that is visible due to the unevenness of the shinogi gives expression to the pottery. The vibrantly blooming chrysanthemum flowers are carefully painted one by one using a traditional technique called ``sometsuke''. One of the charms of Arita ware is its transparent, slightly bluish white color and smooth texture.

Recommended maintenance by the pottery ・For overpainted products, avoid using the dishwasher and wash them by hand with a soft cloth or sponge. Doing so may cause red, gold, or silver paint to peel off or darken.
・After using the utensils, wash them as soon as possible and dry them thoroughly. Insufficient drying may cause mold and odors.

Handling precautions
・As it is handmade, there may be individual differences in color, shape, size, thickness, etc.
・Since the painting and glazing work is done by hand, there may be slight differences in the pattern, color shading, glaze color, and application method.
・Since the soil contains a lot of iron, there may be small light brown or black dots on the surface of the pot, but this does not cause any problem in use.
・Recommended for those who want to enjoy the warm texture that is unique to handmade products, each with a different look.
・Since it does not absorb water, it is difficult to get stains, mold, etc., and is easy to handle.
・Depending on the number of years of use, small scratches from forks and knives may become noticeable.
・Prices may be reviewed or revised depending on the artist or pottery.

Things you should know before purchasing

What creates the expression of a pottery is things that cannot be seen in mass-produced items, such as spots, scratches, unevenness in the glaze, shading, and bending of the shape. The charm of handmade pottery is that it may have pinholes, intrusions, distortions, etc., and is not perfectly arranged, but each one is slightly different in color, size, and shape, and no two are exactly the same. Please enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter as these are the unique characteristics of handmade pottery. 【Individual difference】 Because each piece is hand-painted by a craftsman, the shading of each pattern may vary. [Uneven color/uneven baking] Since the glaze is carefully applied one by one by hand, the glaze may not be applied evenly, resulting in uneven color. During firing, the temperature varies depending on the location of the kiln, resulting in uneven firing. [Other notes] 〇Products that have passed inspection by the pottery and artist are inspected again and delivered to the customer. ■For more information, please see here. Hoyang Kiln

1947 Started a kiln in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture Mainly produces sake vessels, and later produces general tableware. 2003: Changed the name of the kiln to Koyo Kiln. Currently 3rd generation (Yosuke Maeda) We manufacture a wide range of household tableware with simple and soft forms, from indigo-dyed to red-painted and glazed pottery. We value traditional Arita techniques and aim to create pottery that fits modern lifestyles and that both the maker and the user can relate to. ``I want the younger generation to use Arita ware as well.'' Arita ware, which used to be used for special occasions, can now be used on a daily basis. This idea is reflected in the price range and design.

Arita ware

Arita ware is porcelain manufactured in Arita Town, Saga Prefecture, and its surrounding areas. It is said to be the first porcelain made in Japan, and has been widely used as tableware and crafts for over 400 years. Arita ware has a strong image of transparent white porcelain and decoration, but there are also many vessels that use brightly colored glazes, giving a rich variety of colors to your dining table.

What you need to know before purchasing

The appearance of vessels is created by spots, blurs, unevenness of glaze, shading, and deflection of shape, which cannot be found in mass-produced vessels. The charm of handmade vessels lies in the fact that no two vessels are exactly alike, with pinholes, penetrations, distortions, and the like, and that the colors, size, and shape of each piece vary slightly from one to another. The coloring, size, and shape of each piece is slightly different, and the charm of handmade vessels lies in the fact that they are not exactly the same. Individual differences
The finish is relatively uniform, but because it is handmade, there are individual differences in shape, size, color, and so on. Uneven color/uneven firing
Because the glaze is applied by hand, the glaze may not be applied evenly. The firing process is also uneven because the temperature varies depending on the firing location in the kiln. Other Notes
