Koishiwara ware

Koishiwara ware is a historic kiln that was opened in Toho Village, Fukuoka Prefecture, about 300 years ago. Its most distinctive feature is its unique geometric patterns such as ``hake-me'', ``tobikanna'', and ``comb-drawing''. It is popular for its orderly yet simple texture that gives you the warmth of handiwork, and has been used as a pottery for everyday use. With the folk art movement that began in the early 20th century, its existence was once again attracting attention, and the world-renowned British potter Bernard Leach praised it as ``the pinnacle of practical beauty.''
