About the style and atmosphere

Ontayaki is characterized by its unique geometric patterns created by traditional techniques such as ``Hake-me'', ``Tobiban'', and ``comb drawing(Kushime)''. Nowadays, it is gaining popularity due to its traditional yet somewhat modern design. It is a pottery that naturally blends into modern life while retaining its old-fashioned, rustic charm. As you can see in the photo, the differences in the appearance of the patterns, uneven coloring, and sagging that are created by chance due to firing and hand-molding are unique to handmade items. We hope you enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter, where no two are the same. ■You can also view Ontayaki here. Please find your favorite. Ontayaki list page

Ontayaki

About Ontayaki's history began about 300 years ago. This tradition has continued unbroken in this quiet village in Hita City, Oita Prefecture. There are currently only 10 potteries that have inherited the same flow from when the kilns first opened. Techniques unique to Ontayaki, such as hakeme, tobikanna, and comb painting, have been carefully passed down from parent to child. The modern and interesting geometric patterns have a mysterious charm that matches any cuisine. +‥‥‥‥+
