Somewhere new, the craftsmanship shines through

This is an 9-inch plate with an impressive dotted pattern of Tobikanna. Although it has been around for a long time, it has a somewhat modern feel. The surface is slightly glossy, and the bold brown border really highlights the atmosphere of the plate. The fascinating tobikanna pattern matches a wide range of cuisines, including Japanese, Western, Chinese, and ethnic. It has a moderate weight and sense of stability, is durable, and is easy to use, making it an indispensable part of your daily dining table.

From everyday use to hospitality

Large plates are also great for sharing, such as when you have a large family or when people gather at a home party. It would be wonderful to have a colorful salad, a large serving of pasta, and bread on the platter. It looks good not only as a large platter, but also as a single plate. The edges are slightly raised, so you can safely use it even if it's a little juicy.

About the style and atmosphere

Ontayaki is characterized by its unique geometric patterns created using traditional techniques such as ``hake-me'', ``tobikanna'', and ``comb-painting(kushime)''. Nowadays, it is gaining popularity due to its traditional yet somewhat modern design. It is a pottery that naturally blends into modern life while retaining its old-fashioned, rustic charm. Each item is different in shape, size, color, etc., so some items may look like the ones in the photo. Differences in color, uneven color, and sagging that occur by chance during firing and hand-molding create a unique handmade texture. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter, as no two items are the same. ■You can also view Ontayaki here. Please find your favorite. Ontayaki list page

Ontayaki

The history of Ontayaki began about 300 years ago. This tradition has continued unbroken in this quiet village in Hita City, Oita Prefecture. There are currently only 10 potteries that have inherited the same flow from when the kilns first opened. Techniques unique to Ontayaki, such as hakeme, tobikanna, and comb painting, have been carefully passed down from parent to child. The modern and interesting geometric patterns have a mysterious charm that matches any cuisine.
