Ontayaki

The history of Ontayaki began about 300 years ago. This tradition has continued unbroken in this quiet village in Hita City, Oita Prefecture. There are currently only 10 potteries that have inherited the same flow from when the kilns first opened. The techniques unique to Ontayaki, such as hakeme, tobikanna, and comb painting, have been carefully passed down from parent to child. The modern and interesting geometric patterns have a mysterious charm that matches any cuisine.
