About the style and atmosphere

Unique geometric patterns created using traditional techniques such as ``hake-me'', ``tobi-plane'', and ``comb-drawing''. In modern times, Koishiwara ware has become increasingly popular due to its traditional yet modern design. It is a pottery that naturally blends into our daily lives while retaining its old-fashioned, rustic charm. Because each item is handmade, some of them may have noticeable penetrations as shown in the photo. In addition, there may be some small scratches, but this does not affect the use of the product. Differences in color, uneven color, and sagging that occur by chance due to firing or hand-shaping create a unique texture unique to pottery. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime encounter, as no two items are the same. ■You can also view Koishiwara ware pottery here. Please find your favorite. Koishiwara ware list page

Koishiwara ware

Koishiwarayaki is a historic kiln that was opened in Toho Village, Fukuoka Prefecture, about 300 years ago. Its most distinctive feature is its unique geometric patterns such as ``hake-me'', ``tobi-kō'', and ``comb-drawing''. It is popular for its orderly yet simple texture that gives you the warmth of handiwork, and has become a familiar item for everyday use. Due to the folk art movement that began in the early 20th century, its existence was once again attracting attention, and the world-famous British potter Bernard Leach praised it as ``the pinnacle of practical beauty.''
