Hello! This is Kaku from the Uchiru Editorial Department.
"Craft Fair Matsumoto 2019" was held in Matsumoto on May 25th and 26th.
This event is probably the most famous craft fair in Japan. It was quite large and full of attractions.
Now, we will tell you about the "Craft Fair Matsumoto" event!
Please check the article below for a summary of Craft Fair Matsumoto.
A thorough guide to how to enjoy
Overview of “Craft Fair Matsumoto 2019”

“Craft Fair Matsumoto 2019” scene
I walked from Matsumoto Station to the venue. You can get there by walking for about 20 minutes along the straight road in front of the station.
There are various shops along the way, so you can head there with excitement. I went on the first day, and it was a perfect day with really nice weather and not a cloud in the sky.
The inside looks like this, there are many tents among the trees.
There are nearly 200 tents, and each artist's work is wonderful, and it took quite a while to visit them all.
The way the works are placed is so cute that I can't help but notice them.
The weather was really nice on this day, and the sunlight came in beautifully, making the works look even more vivid!
As you can see, there were many announcements of classes being held at artists' studios. This artist sold various miscellaneous goods using wool felt.
There was also a large food booth, with many shops selling bread, coffee, curry, bento boxes, etc.
There are many popular shops, so I think it's a good idea to shop around to find the one you're interested in.
Artists exhibiting at “Craft Fair Matsumoto”
I would like to introduce the artists I talked about at "Craft Fair Matsumoto"!
All the authors told their stories in detail and I was very attracted to them. If you find a wonderful work, please feel free to talk to the artist.
[Ceramics]
Saki Takagi
My work is being done at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, about 60km from Matsumoto. The colorful tiles are distinctive and very cute.
We also have an atelier, so you can stop by when you are in Nagano.
Koichi Ishida “Rokunabe”
It is said that when making pots, they placed emphasis on six things: fireproof/heat resistant, fully glazed, unbreakable, completely handmade with craftsmanship, proven results, and semi-ordered, which is why it was named "Roku-nabe".
There are pots of various sizes and colors that will surely add excitement to your dining table!
Midori Hashimoto
I was attracted to the cute turtle. Because they are handmade, they all have different shapes and are very charming! I think it would be nice to display it in the entryway or bathroom.
[Woodworking]
Takanori Wakabayashi “Kobo Do”
The works were full of ideas, and even the children who came to see them did not want to leave.
The work in the photo has a mechanism in which when you turn the knob on the right side, the wings of the bird above move. Even though there was only one knob, I was surprised to see how the two birds moved differently. It was a work that captured the hearts of children.
[Dyeing and weaving/felt]
Ryohei Sato
It's a feeling I really like and I'm really excited!
The artist created an original handloom from scratch and is filled with love. We have miscellaneous goods in various shapes such as bags and pouches!
Kumi Ogaku “KUUSI 6”
I am a wool felt artist. The colors are very gentle, and just looking at it makes me feel calm. There is an atelier in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, so I'm thinking of stopping by there again!
[Glass]
Mio Kosaka
The glass has a very interesting shape, and it seems that the artist himself arrived at the shape after researching it. It was surprisingly affordable! It's so beautiful that I can't help but admire it.
[Leather]
Masaki Takayama
We are a couple who own a shop in Matsumoto City. Both of them were so friendly that I decided to visit their store again! It looks like you can see a lot of work, so please come by.
Yosuke Maeno "ohagi"
These little shoes were so cute! There were also children's sized rings, key straps with cute faces as motifs, and other items that would make you think, ``This and that is so cute!''
Hirotoshi Ito “Jiyuseki”
If you are local to Matsumoto, you may think you have seen it before! It has often been shown in commercials for a long time and is said to have been scouted by companies. This item is not for sale, but will be on display at a solo exhibition.
Kazu Fujisawa
This person also lives in Matsumoto. We don't have a store, but you can find them at the guest house "Tabishiro" in Matsumoto City! It's very cute, so I'll buy it next time.
Access to “Agata no Mori Park”
In addition to route buses, there are also temporary shuttle buses, so you can use public transportation, but there are many interesting shops between Matsumoto Station and Agatanomori Park, so it is better to walk. I think it's the best!
Summary
This is my first time visiting "Craft Fair Matsumoto 2019." There were many artists from all over the country, and all of them were eye-catching.
Also, all of the authors are good people, and I have had many encounters where I have thought that if they were writing something, I would like it.
It is also easily accessible from Tokyo and Nagoya, taking about 3 hours by train or express bus. Matsumoto can be enjoyed even on a day trip. Please come visit us again! !
